If you want to straighten your teeth discreetly and quickly, the Invisalign system is for you. Invisalign is gradually becoming one of the most popular options for people looking for teeth straightening procedures. However, Invisalign aligners need to be cleaned and maintained. Talk to a dentist today if you are interested in learning more about Invisalign in San Jose, CA.

Although the aligners are supposed to be discarded every couple of weeks, they still need to be cleaned. Otherwise, you risk having a dirty or smelly set of aligners to wear daily.

How to clean your Invisalign aligners?

Keep in mind that there is a difference between just rinsing and properly cleaning when it comes to Invisalign aligners. Rinsing your Invisalign aligners may make them appear cleaner, but it does nothing to address the hidden bacteria that might develop on them.

The basic cleansing technique stated on the Invisalign website for nightly cleaning is as follows:

    • Every night, rinse your Invisalign aligners with water.
    • Brush your aligners with a soft brush (not the one you normally use to brush your teeth) and gentle liquid soap to clean any dirt or food particles that have gathered throughout the day.
    • After brushing, rinse the aligners thoroughly.
    • When not in use, keep them in a protective case.

    Cleaning accessories

Invisalign sells a product called “Steraligner” that includes a tray. Sodium bicarbonate, which is a natural antibacterial, and rubbing alcohol are among the ingredients. Place your aligners in the tray and soak them for around 3 minutes to clean them. Brush with warm water after rinsing off the sterilizing solution.

Invisalign also sells “cleaning crystals,” which can be dissolved in water, and your aligners can then be soaked in them. Sodium sulfate is one of the cleansing agents that are included in these crystals. If you are looking for a less costly and more accessible alternative, these ingredients are similar to those found in products used to clean retainers.

How often should you clean your aligners?

You should clean your aligners every night while brushing and flossing your teeth. This helps remove accumulated food, junk, and bacteria during the day.

    Speak to a dentist today.

If you have any interest in Invisalign, or any other teeth straightening treatments, the first thing you should do is talk to a dentist. Your dentist could give an expert opinion on which options would be the best for you based on your specific issues. Schedule an appointment with a dentist today.
