Having healthy gums is an important part of your overall well being. In your oral hygiene routine, you might have tasks like brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing quite often and visiting your dentist frequently for professional cleaning and checkups. However, if you implement certain natural remedies to protect your gums and teeth, it would help in fending off gum disease. You might be using partial or full dentures. Along with taking care of your dentures, you will also have to care for the guns and remaining natural teeth.

You do not have to go a long way by looking for a “denture clinic near me” online if you want overall dental health care. Instead, you can walk into one of the dental clinics near you where you could get various dental care services which would also include taking care of your dentures and mouth as well.

    Causes of Gum Disease

The bacteria in your mouth constantly keep forming a sticky substance on your teeth known as plaque. Flossing and brushing could help you get rid of plaque but the substance might also harden and turn into another substance called tartar.

The buildup of plaque and tartar might lead to the development of gingivitis which is a condition marked by inflammation of the gums. When it is left untreated, it leads to periodontitis or inflammation around the tooth. It might lead to tooth loss and is also linked to heart disease.

There is no natural remedy to treat or prevent gum disease but you can use it and remedies which can help in fighting plaque build-up and keep the gums healthy.

If you have lost your teeth to cavities,  gum disease or any other issue, you don’t have to worry as you can make use of full or partial dentures that would offer comfort and convenience and would make you feel just like natural teeth when you chew, bite, drink and talk.

Take a look at some of the natural remedies which you could implement to promote healthy gums.

    • Neem

This is an ayurvedic remedy and neem extract has been found to possess antibacterial properties. If you make use of a mouthwash that contains neem, mango or chlorhexidine twice a day for 3 weeks, all three types of mouthwash would be effective in reducing plaque and gingivitis.

    • Tea tree oil

It helps in treating gingivitis. If you make use of tea tree oil for dental or gum health, you could choose a paste that contains that essential oil as an ingredient. However, you should be aware that ingesting undiluted tea tree oil for making use of homemade tea tree oil could turn toxic.

    • Cranberry

It helps in thwarting gum disease by preventing bacteria from sticking to the teeth. The compounds in cranberries help in regulating periodontal inflammation.

    • Vitamin C

Vitamin c plays an important role in protecting gums and maintaining gum health. People who have vitamin C deficiency would be at a higher risk of periodontal disease. You can include foods that are rich in vitamin C such as oranges, kiwi, mango, papaya, grapefruit, Red pepper, strawberry, broccoli and cantaloupe in your diet.

    • Oil pulling

This technique involves using a tablespoon of oil (like coconut oil or sesame oil) around the mouth for about 15 minutes at a time. Studies suggest that oil pulling will reduce the build-up of plaque and offer protection against gingivitis.

    • Diet

Along with using good oral hygiene practices, it preserves oral health by following a diet high in calcium and low in sugar and beverages.
