The new findings suggest that pregnancy places women at much grater risk of serious complications from the killer virus of swine flu. They should be among the first to be vaccinated against pandemic of swine flu. At least two expectant women are believed to have died of swine flu so far.

Looking at cases in April & May, scientists from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention estimated the rate of admission to hospital for pregnant women are more than four times as likely as the rest of the population to end up in hospital with swine flu.
The women that were admitted were all ‘fairly healthy’ before they fell ill with swine flu. The latest findings add to the mixed advice pregnant women have so far received. Some healthcare agencies have said they should avoid crowds altogether, while the Government said they should continue as normal but take extra hygiene measures.
The study in the Lancet medical journal said mothers to be should be among the first to be vaccinated against swine flu.
