New research finds that drinking beer could stop bones from going brittle. The women who drink beer regularly, their bone are stronger enough that they are less likely to suffer from osteoporosis. It is thought that the high level of silicon in beer slows down the thinning that leads to fractures. It helps to boost the formation of new bones.

Beer is also rich source of phytoestrogens, plant versions of oestrogen that helps to keep bone healthy. Bones are made up of a mesh of fibres, minerals, blood vessels & marrow. The healthy bones are ones that are denser with smaller spaces between the different parts. Researchers took trial of 1700, healthy women an average age of 48 & asked about their drinking habits.

The ultra sound scan of those women showed the bones in the hands of beer drinkers to be denser. The women’s hands were chosen because the bones in the fingers are among the first to show signs of osteoporosis. Those women who took the part in the trail were as light beer drinkers, having less than a pint a day. It is suggested that even a small amount of beer can boost bone health.

So it is concluded that silicon plays a major role in bone formation. Beer has been claimed to be one of the most important sources of silicon. Women can drink a small quantity of beer for their healthy bones.
