In a new research it has been found that hormone supplements which are taken to combat ageing effects can raise the women’s chances of conceiving by three hundred percent. The study is claimed as the world’s first clinical study which has verified that women going through fertility treatment who are on DHEA drugs are three times more prone to conceive than those are not.

The most common hormone of the human body is known as DHEA- Dehydroepiandrosterone, which is produced in adrenal gland, gonads and the brain. The level of this hormone increases by the age of twenty and then decreases speedily by the age of thirty. Researchers have deciphered the association between DHEA and its prospective role in rising pregnancy rates in women.

In a study trail researchers examined a group of women going through normal treatment for poor ovulation and another group with same treatment plus the DHEA supplement. Among them twenty women aged thirty-seven to forty-two were given 75mg of DHEA daily for forty days before the beginning of fertility treatment and sustained for five months.

The results of the study showed that not only those women were more prone to conceive but also had healthy pregnancy. They thought that a decrease in hormone had a key role to play in older women having complexity in conceiving when using IVF, said lead researcher Adrian Shulman from Tel Aviv University.

He added that the results attained were beyond their wildest dreams. They never thought there would be three hundred percent increase in women’s chances of conceiving when they took hormone supplement. In the DHEA group, there were twenty-three percent survive birth rate as compared to four percent in the control group.

DHEA is a forbidden matter under the World Anti-Doping Code of the World Anti-Doping Agency, which supervises drug testing for Olympics and other sports.
