People who are afraid of getting a filling, here comes a good news for them because a new painless cavity drill is set to hit dentist surgeries’ soon. The new hi-tech device known as plasma brush will scoop out rotten teeth in just thirty seconds, leaving a slight cooling sensation for the patients.
The new plasma brush makes use of chemicals reaction to sterilize cavities prior to scoping out and forms a bond on the tooth, which is believed to be much powerful than the existing technique. With the help of new technique, filling is supposed to last much longer, which is a massive boost for dentists as wells as patients.
The research team from the University of Missouri, who initiated the research together with Nanova, a medical technology company is confident that new gadget symbols a gigantic burst through in dental practice. Billions of pounds are spent on minor surgeries each year, in which more than seventy percent of all dental procedures involve fillings, allege researchers.
In spite of common fillings, dentists still fill many with dread not least because of the pain involved in drilling in to a rotten tooth. According to engineering professor Hao Li, the studies point out that fillings are sixty percent stronger with the plasma brush.
Clinical trials are about to begin and are expected to show the uses of the plasma brush, explained researcher Qingsong Yu. There have been no side effects reported during the lab trials, and they expect the human trials will help to improve the prototype. If experiments are successful, the plasma brush could revolutionise the most important areas of dentistry.
