The doctors say that the number of US women having a stroke during pregnancy has rushed forward. They belied that other risk aspects like obesity, heart disease and diabetes may be to blame. The incidents of stroke increased from four thousand more than six thousand in previous decade.

The percentage of women having stroke during pregnancy itself has increased by forty-seven percent, with going from 0.15 to .022 strokes per one hundred deliveries. In the twelve weeks after birth there was a rise from .12 to .22 strokes per one hundred deliveries, which is considered rise by eighty-three percent.

According to study researcher Dr Elena Kuklina, from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, they are astonished at the magnitude of the increase, which is considerable. Their results point out an urgent need to take a closer look. Two conditions such as high blood pressure and heart disease, explicated about the entire boost in stroke after birth.

Now more and more women inflowing pregnancy already has some type of risk aspects for stroke, like obesity, chronic hypertension, diabetes or congenital heart disease. Given that pregnancy by itself is a risk factor, if you have one of these other stroke risk factors, it doubles the risk, added Dr Kuklina.

They are worried that this research has revealed such a sharp increase in pregnancy-related stroke over the past few years. So it is important for women who want to start a family to understand the risks associated with pregnancy and to take steps to assure they are as healthy as possible prior to getting pregnant, Dr Sharlin Ahmed, research liaison officer for The Stroke Association explained.
