A novel advises office workers who want to lose their weight to stand up while talking o the phone and to walk over to speak to their colleagues, instead of mailing them. The workplace exercise guidelines have issued by the Department of Health to deal with worries that most of the people are spending too much time sitting down.

The new guidelines suggest that desk-bound staff can do office workouts to improve health, increase activity and combat obesity. This including taking stairs instead of waiting for the lift and walking to work. The desk-bound staff is also advised to stand up after every forty minutes when talking on the phone.

The guidelines state that adults should intend to do some form of exercise every day such as running, cycling, walking or even mowing the lawn. But only a third of adults take the recommended amount of exercise, which amounts to at least thirty minutes for five days a week.

They should try to fit in a minimum of two and a half hours over the course of the week that includes as a minimum two muscle strengthening activities like weight lifting or push-ups. The official guidelines also advise sedentary workers to try to break up the amount of time they spend sitting in front of a computer.

There was increasing evidence that long period spent sitting down could escort to health problems. Every thirty to forty minutes, stand up while taking that phone call. Do not send the email, walk over and speak to your colleague, explained Prof Fiona Bull, who helped draw up the guidelines, from the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University.

In earlier study by Canadian researchers found that women who spent more than six hours a day at a desk were forty percent more prone to die of heart disease or cancer. The Government guidelines also state that children over five should exercise for at least one hour a day, with three sessions of vigorous activity, such as running, per week.
