Researchers have warned that deficiency of sunshine is putting millions of people at risk of diabetes as their bodies do not have adequate levels of vitamin D. while people who have plenty of it in their systems were less prone to develop type 2 diabetes.

The ample of exercise and intake of good diet can help prevent development of diabetes. Though, the Australian study also suggests that enough sunshine could also act as contributory factor. The researchers from Melbourne Pathology tested the blood of more than five thousand people.

They established that for every extra twenty-five nanomoles of vitamin D in the blood the odd of getting diabetes was diminished by twenty-four percent. People who have fewer than fifty nanomoles of vitamin D per litre have considered as deficient. It is tough to underrate how significant this could be, explained Dr Ken Sikaris, co-author of the report.

If the association is fully recognized between vitamin D and diabetes, then people those at risk could take dietary supplements to diminish the odd of getting the disease. The deficiency of vitamin D is estimated to cause six million cases of cancer globally each year.

In several regions of Britain rickets disease is also making comeback as people are not getting enough sunshine. It is not potential to suggest supplement to diminish the risk on the basis of the finding of this study and people should not observe it as a quick fix, explained Dr Victoria King, from Diabetes UK.

Until they know more, maintaining a healthy weight by keeping to a healthy diet and undertaking regular physical activity is the best way to reduce the risk, added Dr king. The study could play a key role in combating the condition which has been increasing in recent years.
