Eating four apples daily can slash cholesterol levels

The consumption of apples could help in improving cholesterol levels and losing weight, state researchers. Women who consumed seventy gram of dried apple daily for six months showed significant fall in LDL cholesterol, which is harmful cholesterol blamed for clogged arteries by about a quarter.

The levels of other composites associated with heart disease and stroke also dropped, while levels of HDL cholesterol, good form of cholesterol that fends off the hardening of blood vessels augmented by four percent. The women also lost an average of just over 3lb in weight, in spite of taking extra calories from snacking on the fruit.

The researchers believe that the cholesterol benefits could be activated by antioxidants present in apples, whereas the slimming effects have been accredited to a composite that can suppress appetites. Pectin is frequently used to aid jams set and it is found in higher levels in apricots, carrots and citrus fruits.

For gaining similar benefits from fresh apples one must eat four or five daily. According to Dr Bahram Arjmandi lead researchers from of Florida State University, it was never expected that apple consumption could reduce bad cholesterol to this degree, but the results were unbelievable.
