The best way to trim chubby tummy could be to sleep on it. The latest study revealed that a good night’s sleep is a key aspect in the fight against the bulge. Men and women, who had at least six hours of good night sleep, were able to cope up the stress of everyday life well.
They were more than twice prone to shed extra weight when put on diet for six months. The researchers believe that six to eight hours of sound sleep helps in keeping the hormones that mange the feeling of being full and hungry in equilibrium. It also diminishes the stress which halts people from bingeing on comfort foods.
In a study conducted by team in Portland conscripted five hundred overweight men and women, those were asked to curtail their daily food intake by at least five hundred calories. The study participants were also advised steadily to increase the amount of their workout. They were also suggested to eat healthy and low-fat diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables.
The participants were also provided weekly group meetings for inspiration and support. In beginning of the study, the dieters were asked about their sleep habits, feeling of stress and time spent watching TV or computer screen. After six months, participants who had lowest levels of stress and those got six to eight hours of sleep lost about ten lb.
Those participants were more than twice prone to stressed out light sleepers to have put off a stone reported the study published in the International Journal of Obesity. This study proposes that when people try losing weight, they should get the correct amount of sleep and decrease their stress, explained Dr Charles Elder from the Kaiser Permanente Centre for Health Research, in Portland, Oregon.
He added that some people may just need to curtail on their timetables and get to bed earlier. Others may find that work out can lessen stress and help them sleep. For some people, mind-body techniques like meditation might also be helpful. The stress may give rise to hormonal changes that heighten appetite that sends people reaching for junk food.
