OCD-obsessive compulsive disorder is a mental health condition in which patient experience devastating manias, obligations or both. Manias are recurring thoughts or urges which can not be ignored and makes one feel apprehensive. These compulsions are actions which people feel they must do so as so manage this anxiety.

A renowned way for obsessive compulsive disorder marked it is to have manias regarding dirt or infection and a compulsion to wash dirt away. Ritualistic ship shaping is another example. Here is explained ways to identify and treat OCD by Dr. Ellie Cannon.

Sometimes, antidepressants can help to alleviate OCD symptoms, when used at higher doses than for depression. Through antidepressants, the symptoms do not resolved completely but they are enough to reinstate a normal quality of life. The sufferers should not take antidepressants for longer term.

The cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the best available form of treatment for obsessive compulsive disorder. The aim of the therapy is to change the way people act when they are faced with an obsession, rather than to carry out the compulsion. They learn another ways to deal with the anxiety.

In more stern cases of obsessive compulsive disorder, CBT and anti-depressants are used altogether. The cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is available on NHS. It is thought some people are genetically predisposed to get OCD. Though no precise genes are known for OCD, it is seen certainly seen more frequently in those whose parents or siblings suffers.

The cause of OCD is still unknown, but it is possible that an imbalance in brain chemicals can cause OCD. The prediction of OCD sufferers is good and treatment can cure the problem, though there is always risk of its return. OCD can remain inert for those with mild symptoms, without the treatment.
