There are two problems of which women often complain of, one is migraine and other is pelvic pain. The latest study suggests that both problems are associated with each other. Seven out of ten women suffering chronic pelvic pain also suffer migraine, three times more than the normal rate.

Chronic pelvic pain is typified by uneasiness in the region situated between the hips, below the bellybutton, for six months or more. It comprises of ten percent of all gynecological appointments. The pain is associated with infections in uterus. This condition affects fifteen to twenty-five percent of women of reproductive age.

On the other hand migraine is usually felt as throbbing pain in the front or one side of the head. Some migraine sufferers also experience nausea and light sensitivity. In a newest study research team from US government’s National Institutes of Health, examined the association between migraine and chronic pelvic pain in women, with and without endometriosis.

Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue from the lining of the uterus migrate to other parts of the body. The findings have shown that nearly seventy percent women suffering chronic pelvic pain also had migraine and migraine was no more likely in women suffering endometriosis then those without.

One hypothesis is that hormone-like composite known as prostaglandins can be the cause of pain. These play significant role in a number of functions including inflammation, contraction and relaxation of the blood vessels. Another hypothesis is that the women suffering one form of chronic pain get more sensitive to other resources of pain because their nerve cells rise in universal sensitivity.

Symptoms which would generally not cause pain now do as doorsills have been worsen. Migraine might be more intimately related with chronic pelvic pain than with endometriosis itself, explained study leader Prof Stephen Silberstein, former president of the American Headache Society. Further analysis may escort to better indulgent and management of pelvic pain, migraine and endometriosis.
