A novel study found that youngsters who do not adequate amount of fruit and vegetables are thirteen times more prone to develop problem of constipation. Constipation is frequently a painful condition, which occurred when bowel movements are infrequent of hard to pass.

If left untreated the condition can escort to more severe bowel impediments. In a study trail by Dr Moon Fai Chan from the National University of Singapore and Yuk Ling Chan from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University examined the dietary habits of nearly four hundred kids in Hong Kong. Kids on regular medication or paid regular hospital visits were excluded.

The results of the study showed that seven percent of kids in the age factor of eight to ten had functional constipation. This type of constipation is caused without any physical or psychological reason.  Kids who did not like to eat fruit and vegetables were thirteen times more prone to struggle in the toilets.

Whereas kids who did not enough water were eight times more at risk.  Numeral studies have recommended that functional constipation is getting worse among school-age children. It is predictable that functional constipation accounts for ninety-five percent of cases of constipation affecting children once they pass infancy, according to Dr Chan.

The condition has severe consequences because it can cause a wide range of worrying emotional and physical problems like stress, soiling, problems at school, damaged self-confidence and abridged social interaction. This study would help to elevate consciousness of functional constipation, which can cause children real physical and emotional distress and seriously affect their quality of life, added Dr Chan.

The research team recommended improving school toilet facilities, educating parents about the need to take on enough vegetables and fluid and encouraging schools to stock high fibre snacks.
