In a novel study researchers claimed that a small glass of red wine could keep adult diabetes under control. The drink contained high concentrations of chemicals through which body normalize sugar levels. It was also revealed by experts that just a small glass of wine contained the active ingredients equivalent to daily dose of anti-diabetic drug.

Moderate drinking as part of calorie proscribed diet could avoid type 2 diabetes. Millions of people worldwide suffered from type 2 diabetes. It occurs when pancreas is unable to produce enough insulin. It is a hormone that regulates blood sugar. High levels of sugar in the blood can cause tiredness, heart disease, blindness, strokes, damage of nerves and kidney disease.

Earlier studies have shown that natural chemical found in grape skin and wine known as polyphenols can help the body in controlling glucose levels. They also avoid potentially hazardous spikes in blood sugar. The polyphenol content of twelve diverse varieties of wine were compared by research team from the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna.

They found contents to be higher in red wines. Then they examined the reactions of these polyphenols with the cells in human body by focusing on a particular receptor that sits on the surface of cells known as PPAR-gamma. They are involved in the process of energy storage, the growth of fat cells, and the regulation of blood sugar.

It was shown that polyphenol in wine unite to the receptor and that a small glass of wine contain sufficient to opponent the activity of the potent diabetes drug Avandia. You could receive a natural extort from grape skins for treating diabetes. This is further clinical substantiation that a small amount of wine is really beneficial for health, explained Prof Alois Jungbauer.
