Women in their twenties should freeze parts of their ovaries if they want to postpone motherhood until later in life, according to US leading fertility experts. One of the worlds’ best reproductive surgeons Dr Sherman Silber believes that it is far more effectual than IVF.

This method could help millions of women delay having babies until they have satisfied with their career and are ready to settle down. This procedure involves extracting about a third of tissue from ovaries of a woman when she is her twenties as that time she is most fertile.

This segment of tissue that contains approximately sixty thousand eggs is frozen until woman reaches her thirties or forties and come to a decision to begin her family. Then this segment of tissue is melted and implanted back to her ovary so that it can give her with similar number and quality of eggs that she would have in her twenties.

The whole procedure to extract ovarian tissue takes couple of hours under local anesthetic. It only extracts a third of one of a woman’s two ovaries and leaving a woman with over eighty percent of total ovarian tissue. The procedure to put the melted tissue back into the ovaries is analogous to a skin graft.

The study was still very new and much more required to be done to make sure the procedure’s effectiveness, particularly in how successful the re-grafting of the ovarian tissue when a woman was ready to try and conceive would be. They need to see clear evidence of the effectiveness of the procedure explained Tony Rutherford, chairman of the British Fertility Society.

Susan Seenan of Infertility Network UK told BBC News, there was no assurance that any of the presently used techniques, including IVF, would ensure a woman could conceive. People should be very cautious and should not depend on this as a guarantee of success in the future, because you cannot really ensure your fertility.
