In a new study researchers have revealed that by consuming a handful of berries could fend off psychological effects of ageing and help to declutter the brain. They believe that strawberries, blueberries and other bright colored berries could activate the housekeeping device in the brain.

These berries wipe up and reprocess certain cells which are responsible for memory lapses and other psychological refuse and help in keeping the brain sharp in the old age. In a clinical study it was found that housekeeping cells known as microglia devastate or reprocess biochemical wreckage that frontages a hazard to the working of the brain.

As people grow in age’s microglia mop less well and wreckage start to build. The microglia become over-activated and actually starts to injure healthy cells in the brain. Their research proposes that barriers have a rescuing effect, said lead researcher Shibu Poulose. This is the first study of its type that shows the effects of berries on the brain.

All typed of berries are rich source of anthocyanins which are antioxidants accredited with health benefits. The health benefits of anthocyanins may include warding off diabetes, cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer’s disease. Other rich source of red and purple antioxidants are beetroot, aborigines, red cabbage and plums. Walnuts can have an analogous effect, the American Chemical Society’s conference heard.
