Women who eat red meat two times a day increase their risk of heart disease almost by third has revealed a new study. The study also found that women who consumed two serving processed red meat daily were thirty percent more prone to suffer cardiovascular disease that those who ate just half serving.
If women substitute red meat for portion of nuts then they can slash risk of heart disease by thirty percent. Eating fish instead of red meat can lower the risk of cardiovascular disease up to twenty-four percent whereas substituting red meat for poultry can cut the risk of heart attack by nineteen percent.
The team of researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, in the U.S. considered the diet patterns of more than eighty-four thousand women ages thirty to fifty-five between years 1980 to 2006. All the participants were required to complete a questionnaire about how frequently they consumed one hundred and sixteen various food items.
Their study showed that creating replacements for red meat or reducing the amount of red meat from the diet had significant health advantages, said study leader Adam Bernstein from the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston in the US.
However there is a huge disparity between fresh, unprocessed red meat and something like a hamburger that has been processed and is less healthy as a result. Avoiding red meat in total divests you from rich supply of iron and protein, warned nutritionist Marek Doyle.
