Cinnamon could help in preventing diabetes and cardiovascular disease, explained researchers. They have found that cinnamon contains antioxidants that could slash the odds of getting both the conditions by twenty-three percent. To understand the link team of researchers from Applied Health Sciences in Fairlawn, Ohio, USA considered twenty-two pre-diabetic obese patients.

Pre-diabetic is happened just before the beginning of full-scale diabetes. Among twenty-two participants half were provided with 250mg of water soluble cinnamon each day and rest was provided dummy solution. Blood samples were collected of all the participants before and after the trail.

The results showed that cinnamon drinkers had thirteen to twenty-three percent increased in antioxidants associated with lowering blood sugar levels, reported the study published in Journal of the American College of Nutrition. Sufferers had become resistant to higher than normal levels of insulin. Insulin hormone normalizes blood sugar levels made by the pancreas.

More study was required to find the efficacy of water soluble cinnamon in preventing diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Only more study would tell if the investigational research supports the idea that people who are overweight or obese could reduce oxidative stress and blood glucose by consuming cinnamon extracts that have been proven safe and effective, explained lead researcher Richard Anderson from U.S. Department of Agriculture.
