A novel study showed that a low dose of aspirin a day could slash chances of developing prostate cancer in men by thirty percent. A dose of seventy-five mg tablet of aspirin every day can influentially protect against the disease.

Researchers believe that aspirin seems to work by jamming the effects of enzymes that causes inflammation that is key factor in the growth of prostate cancer. In a study trail, researchers from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre in Seattle observed and contrasted two groups consisted of one thousand men prostate cancer patients and more than nine thousand without the condition.

While examining how often both groups took aspirin, they found there was higher use of drug in cancer free participants. Men who took aspirin in last twelve months were twenty-one percent less prone to develop tumour. Those who had uses aspirin for five years had twenty-four percent decline risks. The greatest benefits seemed among those who regularly took a daily dose.

Some other medications that are analogous to aspirin and known as anti-inflammatory and non-steroidal drugs did not have similar effect. The risk of prostate cancer increased with age and males over the age of fifty more prone to develop it and a strong genetic link was also found.

The aspirin seems to dampen the effects of two particular enzymes called PTGS1 and PTGS2, both trigger arouse inflammation in prostate glands, reported the study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology. Doctors often suggest a low dose of aspirin to heart patients to help in thinning the blood and decrease the risk of clots.

The regular use of aspirin has already connected with lower risk of other types of cancer in previous studies. Intake of aspirin several times a week not only reduces the risk of prostate cancer but also slashed the risk of developing breast, ovarian and lung cancer.
