In new study researchers found that cherry juice could clasp the key to a good night’s sleep because curing insomnia has become the biggest health challenges of the contemporary life. In a study trail it was found that participants who drank a glass of unsweetened cherry juice in the evening enjoyed more sound sleep than those drank same amount of other juice.

About one in four adults suffer from the problem of insomnia due to modern lifestyle and around every fifth adult regularly get less than five hours of sleep at night. The effects of cherry juice could be due to fruits’ high content of melatonin.

Melatonin is the hormone which regulates the sleep and wake up cycle of the body, said lead researcher of study psychiatrist Dr Wilfred Pigeon from the University of Rochester in New York. They examined the sleeping patterns of volunteers on two routines.

Through the first routine volunteers drank cherry juice and in the second routine a similar fruit juice. They found use of cherry juice escorted to an average of seventeen minutes more sleep. Given the side effects of some medication, it was encouraged to have a natural alternative, explained Dr. Pigeon, whose findings are published in the Journal of Medicinal Food.

Foods such as cherries might be a better substitute to enhance the body’s supply than supplements, explained melatonin expert Dr Russel Reiter from the University of Texas.
