Researchers have invented an innovatory pair of men’s briefs which is not only comfortable in wearing but also save lives as well. In such pair of briefs an electronic biosensors are printed on the waistband which measure heart rate, blood pressure and other very important signals during stable contact with the skin.

The new revolutionary technology was invented and developed by nano engineering professor Joseph Wang from University of California San Diego. While explaining its qualities he said that stresses of every day wear like stretching or folding did not affect the performance of the sensor. He hoped that this intelligent technology will allow patients to be observed at home rather than hospital.

The venture is being sponsored by US military would provide benefits to American soldiers. It engrosses observing the injury of soldiers during battleground surgery and its goal is to develop cleanly enveloping sensor which can locate in field and recognize the type of injury, said professor Wang.

The biosensor which discerns an injury would also discharge the drugs to ease pain and even treat the wound. This biosensor can also provide precious information to athletes and even measure blood alcohol levels. Before these smarts briefs are worn by soldiers in battlefield more work is needed to make sure monitoring are durable and robust to cope up with daily activities.

The ranges of applications of technology go beyond the military. They could envisage all the trend of personalized medicine for isolated monitoring of the elderly at home, monitoring a wide range of biomedical markers, like cardiac markers, alerting for any potential stroke, diabetic changes and other changes related to other biomedical scenario, explained professor Joseph Wang.
