Million of hayfever sufferers could be treated with probiotics yoghurt drinks, has found in new study. Each year millions of people suffer from eye watering conditions and the numbers of sufferers are on increase. The treatment for curing allergy could already be stockpiled on the shelves of supermarkets, thought British researchers.
The team led by Dr Andrew Wilson, an expert in allergy and respiratory medicine from the university’s school of medicine has already finished the lead study on small group of sufferers which found that yoghurt drinks contain Lactobacillus casei Shirota (LcS) bacteria. It stops the immune system from over reacting to pollen, otherwise may cause hayfever.
Hayfever may also escort to asthma, may cause episodic sleep and may blight concentration at work or school. Hayfever may be at its worst during the customary school exams season and may be a significant cause of interruption for many young school going children.
Their study trail is the first to identify those probiotic substances, such as in these drinks can regulate the immune system. They are now looking for participants to help them take their study forward. A cheap and non drug treatment would be an amazing breakthrough, said Dr. Wilson.
Researchers would encourage hayfever by revealing pollen sufferers and then try to work against the hayfever by giving prescribed amounts of yoghurt’s drink.
