British researchers have developed a new urine test that would transfigure the diagnosis of autism in children. Similar to pregnancy test few drops of urine would detect the condition that can significantly help doctors in treating the condition. Moreover the new test would save kids from numerous psychological tests and hospital visits required to identify autism.
To diagnose the condition earlier will also help adolescents to get treatment early and improve the quality of their life in coming years. The new test which is on developmental stage is based research that shows that people with autism have dissimilar microbes in their gut from others. Urine of children with autism contained a different chemical fingerprint.
It seemed weird that there was connection between autism and what happened in someone’s gut. The metabolism and makeup of gut bacteria reflect all sorts of things that include lifestyle and genes. They hope that their finding might be the first step towards creating a simple urine test to diagnose autism at young age, said Jeremy Nicholson, of Imperial College London.
He further said that by giving therapy to children with autism when they are young can make a huge difference to their progress. Many children have autism and related condition such as Asperser’s Syndrome. Diagnosis is a lengthy process that starts with examining the way the adolescent interacts with other. Other tests carried out to diagnose autism include interviews, psychological test and physical examination.
Patients of autism are treated usually with behavioral, speech and other therapies. Before the application of these finding widely, there would be a need to test and analyze them on a much broader degree, said spokesman from A National Autistic Society.
