Large numbers of men are suffering from depression in silence because health care providers are trained only to smudge the condition in women. If health care providers do more to diagnose the causes of male depression mainly in middle-aged men then they could save numbers of male from committing suicide. Just women of middle age suffer from depression men are just as likely to suffer from depression.

In spite of established knowledge among healthcare provides that women are more likely to show symptoms of mental distress. Often men do not get treatment for mental distress so they are more likely to commit suicide. The highest suicide group in men is now aged between forty to fifty years. The problem of male depression always stays hidden.

The health care providers are so poor to diagnose male depression because they habitually look for feminine signals. Depressed men are more prone to anger and aggression. Middle aged men who suffer from depression are also less likely to talk about their problem to their friends and relatives. They fear that it may push them towards marital breakdown.

Many things such as ‘real men don’t cry’ can grip men back from getting help. Moreover the absence of symptoms of depression those are more likely to experience by women than men are tearfulness. Men who do not try to come out of depression, slip through the net and do not get the support they needed which can save their life.

Paul Farmer, chief executive of Mind told that statistics told them that women were more likely to have depression than men. In reality men were just as likely to experience depression but were far less likely to seek help, be diagnosed or received treatment.

They are encouraging the healthcare providers to look out some or more male symptoms of depression such as anger and aggression and calling for the increased provision of mental health tailored for men, explains Mr. Farmer.
