Effective way to become slim is crash dieting. In spite of health cautions by nutritionists, researchers demonstrated that dieters who shed off the majority of their weight in the first month are also able to shed off more weight in long run. These diets are also able to maintain their new figure in comparison to dieters who lost less.

For their research researchers followed more than two hundred fifty obese women. They asked them to cut their calorie intake and to increase the duration of exercise for eighteen months. They found that women who shed off more than 1.5 lb per week in the first month were able to shed off more weight within six months.

Women who primarily shed off less than half a pound per week ended up losing just 11 lb overall. This study has shown preliminary weight loss rate during the initial weeks of the treatment may provide an important forecaster for long term success.

Studies have shown that rate of preliminary weight loss, even within the first few weeks of treatment, may serve as an important predictor of long-term success. Their findings had shown that people who lost weight faster achieved greater reduction and they were less prone to weight regain than long-term loser.

The dieter can have heart attack if his sodium and potassium levels drop more than sufficient. If level of energy also falls, then his body can start to burn muscle which can harm kidney, liver and brain. Many researchers think that secret of losing weight and to keep it off is based on walking a marathon distance. Walking can help to keep the weight off.
