People who take a glass of wine with dinner or brandy before bed are much healthier than others. While the research has shown that moderate drinkers are less strained, are slimmer and have positive approach but unfortunately alcohol has nothing to do with it.
The good health of moderate drinkers is more likely to be linked with their healthier diet, more exercise and better balance between life and work than those who don’t drink and those who drink heavily. The result challenges other studies that have attributed intake of small amount of alcohol with great health benefits.
To confirm the health benefits of moderate drinking the French researchers elected one lack and fifty thousand males and females to a series of test at Paris hospital. These participants were asked about their education, job, amount of exercise they did and amount of alcohol intake. They were divided into four groups including teetotalers, low-level drinkers, moderate drinkers and heavy drinkers.
It was found that those who were in low or moderate groups had better general health than those who never drank or drank large amount of alcohol. Men in group of moderate drinkers were less likely to suffer from strain and desolation, were slimmer and had lower risk of developing heart problems. Women in group of moderate drinkers had smaller waist, lower blood pressure and had good health.
Moderate drinkers of both sexes were also found to have high density of lipoprotein (HDL) in their blood. Earlier studies had failed to take into account the fact that those who drank wisely were likely to also take care of tier health in other ways. They had more educated approach towards their health, explained Dr Boris Hansel, from Hospital of Pitie-Salpetriere in Paris.
The small amount of alcohol may be beneficial for health but large amount of it can cause high blood pressure, stroke and some cancers, explained June Davison from the British Heart Foundation.
