Millions of children around the world are at risk of developing cancer because they are not eating enough amounts of fruits and vegetables. Most of the children are not getting the required amount of five portions a day, exposed a new research. Researcher believed that increased risk cancer can be prevented by healthy eating, maintaining a healthy weight and taking regular exercise.

People should keep themselves lean, without becoming underweight and they should daily consume required five portions of fruits and vegetables. People should make them fit physically by doing exercise for thirty minutes. Moreover they should avoid intake of fizzy drinks and cut down the consumption of low-fibre processed foods high in fats or sugar, recommends The World Cancer Research Fund.

Consumption of red meat and processed meat should be limited as much as possible. Only fifth of children are getting required amount of fruit and vegetables is a matter of concern. Parents should encourage children to learn health habits as early as possible in life, explains nutritionist Nathalie Winn, for the WCRF.

The new research has shown that eating plant based diet that contains fruits and vegetables, whole grains and pulses most likely to reduce risk of many types of cancer later in life. The Health Survey for England (HSE) found that, on average, boys aged five one to fifteen eat 3.1 portions of fruit and vegetables per day and girls consume 3.3. One in fourteen boys and one in twenty five girls did not eat any at all.
