Lower back pain is one of the biggest health problem. Every year millions of people around the world consult their doctors and in most cases degeneration of disc is found. But through a new revolutionary research one could be able to tackle back the problem of back pain. In between the vertebrae bones in the spine discs are situated they are small circular cushions of tissues that work like shock absorber. Discs are prone to wear and tear with ages. Australian regenerative medicine company Mesoblastis developed the new treatment using adult stem cells to re-grow the disc. Due to an extraordinary ability of stem cells they can develop into mature cells that will help to make up organs and tissues of the adult body.
The clinical trial to repair degeneration of disc disease is expected to start shortly. Patients with severe lower back pain and potential candidates with back surgery will be on trail. Doctors will inject adult stem cells, grown in lab into patent’s damaged disc under local anesthesia. Doctor hope these stem cells will stimulate local cells over several months to regenerate the tissues of the damaged disc.
